Alabama Crimson Tide Basketball

The Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team has increasingly emerged on the scene as a force to be reckoned with after many decades playing second fiddle to the powerful Alabama Crimson Tide football team. In fact, a football coach, the renowned Paul “Bear” Bryant, was actually responsible for kickstarting the turnaround of Alabama’s basketball program by calling his friend Paul Rupp, coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, for help. Rupp put him in touch with C.M. Newton, who took over as head coach of the Crimson Tide and soon made a massive difference, leading the team to three consecutive conference titles (1974-1976) as well as the team’s first two appearances in the NCAA postseason March Madness tournament, the second of which saw them progress to the Sweet 16. In the decades since, the Crimson Tide have rarely looked back, transforming themselves into consistent contenders in the Southeastern Conference, as well as qualifying for 22 more March Madness tournaments. The Tide have appeared in the Sweet 16 on 9 occasions and even managed to progress all the way to the Elite 8 in 2004, where they lost 87-71 to the high-powered UConn Huskies (who went on to win the title). Crimson Tide alumni have also gone on to star in the NBA, including both past NBA players such as Robert Horry and Latrell Sprewell as well as an excellent current crop of players including Collin Sexton, Brandon Miller, and Noah Clowney. After a disappointing loss in the Sweet 16 of the 2023 March Madness tournament at the hands of the upstart San Diego State Aztecs, Crimson Tide fans will be hoping for much more in 2024 and the seasons to come.

How can I get cheap tickets to Alabama Crimson Tide games?

Crimson Tide basketball games are the big draw at Coleman Coliseum, especially as the basketball-mad state of Alabama lacks an NBA team (the closest being the Atlanta Hawks, a 3-hour drive away from Tuscaloosa). As the Crimson Tide have continued to improve on the court, demand for tickets to their home games has risen correspondingly. This can make tickets hard to find, particularly for postseason tournament games, key conference deciders, or rivalry matchups (see below), which frequently sell out. To get your hands on the cheapest tickets to Houston Cougars games, search the TicketX listings on this page and use our handy TicketX seating chart to compare prices and locations. You can purchase tickets from TicketX with just one click for the lowest commission fees!

Alabama Crimson Tide Rivalries

The Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team has a major rivalry with their state rivals the Auburn Tigers that dates back to the teams’ first meeting in 1924. Alabama currently leads the all-time series at 94-40 but lost the most recent game on February 7, 2024 by a score of 99-81. Fans frequently travel to away games given the relatively short distances involved, creating quite the exciting atmosphere at rivalry matchups between the two teams. The Crimson Tide do not have any other major rivalries that stick out, though a Tuscaloosa journalist once humorously remarked that their biggest rivalry was turnovers (Alabama versus Holding On To The Basketball).

Are Alabama Crimson Tide basketball games exciting?

As at Alabama footballgames, the Crimson Tide basketball team are cheered on by legions of loyal fans, including the wild “Crimson Chaos” student supporters group and their “Roll Tide” cheer that buoyed the team to an undefeated 19-0 home record in 2010-11. Wear red!
