Ice Spice

In the 2020s, TikTok has emerged as the app to know for all things music and entertainment, playing an important role in the careers of several music artists. Rapper, Ice Spice, real name Isis Naija Gaston, is one of these artists. She was born and raised in the Bronx, New York City, the hometown of famous rapper Cardi B, one of her musical inspirations.

Ice Spice’s love for music started at a young age. She grew up with her father, who was an underground rapper. When she was 7, she began to write raps and poetry. As she got older, she started rapping over beats and later created an Instagram page with the name Ice Spice. Today, the 24-year-old rapper has emerged as one of the new generation’s artists.

Her Rise to Stardom

Ice Spice broke into the music industry in 2022 when the chorus of her song, Munch (Feelin’ U), went viral on TikTok. Since then, it has been a whirlwind of success for the drill rapper. Ice Spice owes her debut to producer Riotusa. The two met in 2021 and have collaborated on most of the rapper’s discography.  Before the release of Munch, Ice Spice released a couple of songs, starting with her first single, Bully Freestyle, in March 2021. Following the success of the 2022 single, she released the track, Bikini Bottom, which later became a part of her debut EP, Like…?. The third single off the EP was In Ha Mood and it also features the fun track, Deli.

In her short time as a full-fledged musician, Ice Spice has stacked up several collaborations with notable musicians and giants in the industry. Personally, the rapper has initiated her own collaborations; the remix of Princess Diana off her first EP with Nicki Minaj and the single, Pretty Girl with Rema. Her feature on the remix Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2 by  Pink Pantheress further introduced her to a larger audience. In May 2023, she followed this trend when she jumped on the remix of Karma by Taylor Swift. Later that year, in June, she collaborated with Nicki Minaj on the track Barbie World off the Barbie Movie Soundtrack. The rapper has developed a friendship with Taylor Swift; check out the TicketX magazine article on Taylor Swift, detailing their attendance at the 2024 Super Bowl show.
