HEART

Ann and Nancy Wilson are the brains behind HEART, one the United States best-known pop bands. The sisters have shaped the band since its inception. With guitar-driven hits like Magic Man and Barracuda, the group rose to fame in the mid-'70s. They made their own music, blending progressive rock, hard rock, and common folk. Their debut, Dreamboat Annie (1976), and its follow-up, Little Queen (1977), established them as hitmakers with punch and personality.

In 1985, the Wilsons reached the crescendo with their eponymous album, which had chart-toppers like AloneWhat About Love?, and These Dreams. Despite a hiatus in the late '90s, during which they explored other musical avenues with the Lovemongers, HEART reunited in 2004 with Jupiter Darling. The band’s enduring popularity culminated in their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.

Raised in a military family, Ann and Nancy spent their early years in diverse locales before settling in Seattle. While Anne honed her talents without formal training, Nancy mastered the guitar and flute. Their journey into professional music began when Ann joined a male-dominated vocal group founded in 1963 as The Army, and later renamed HEART.

Their rise to prominence saw lineup changes and legal battles, but their talent prevailed. Hits like Crazy on You and Magic Man took them platinum, while subsequent albums like Dog & Butterfly (1978) and Bebe le Strange (1980) showcased their evolving sound. Despite setbacks in the early '80s, they came back with an eponymous album to re-secure their place in music history.

The Wilson sisters' legacy extends beyond Heart's discography. Ventures like the Lovemongers allowed them to explore different music styles. Meanwhile, solo projects and collaborations kept their creativity alive. With accolades in their wake and a diverse catalog of hits, Ann and Nancy Wilson continue to inspire generations of music lovers.

HEART’s Discographic Achievements

HEART, as earlier stated, debuted their career with Dreamboat Annie in 1976 under Mushroom Records, earning unexpected commercial success with hits like Magic ManDreamboat Annie, and Crazy on You, reaching No. 7 on the U.S. albums chart. Their follow-up, "Little Queen" in 1977, featuring Barracuda, further solidified their stature.

Amidst lineup changes, sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson remained the band's driving force, contributing as lead singer and lead guitarist, respectively. As primary songwriters, they have always made significance with HEART as a pioneering female-driven hard-rock band.

In 1985, the band wholeheartedly embraced a more pop-friendly sound with their self-titled album, which soared to No. 1 on the U.S. charts, selling over 5 million copies. The single These Dreams topped the Billboard singles chart, with What About LoveNever, and Nothin' At All all making the top 10.

The momentum continued with 1987's Bad Animals, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard albums chart, featuring hits like Alone and Who Will You Run To. Brigade in 1990, with All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You, completed a triumphant trio of albums.

Following what was a relative disappointment of 1993's Desire Walks On, the Wilson sisters briefly went separate ways to form The Lovemongers, putting out Whirlygig in 1997. Nonetheless, they came back together in 2004, majorly for Jupiters Darling, which received critical acclaim but modest sales.

Heart regained national prominence and commercial success with 2010's Red Velvet Car, reaching No. 10 on the Billboard charts with popular singles WTF and Hey You.

As Ann Wilson's rock 'n' roll journey nears its twilight, she is always emphasizing the importance of every moment, stating. What’s more, there's an even greater sense of mortality, of the stakes involved here, and an even stronger desire to make every moment on the album matter.
