Tyla

Born Tyla Laura Seethal and raised in Joburg, Tyla is one of the global music industry’s rising stars. The South African singer is known for a distinct blend of pop, R&B, and Afro beats. Although just 22 years old, she has quickly become a global award-winning sensation. 

Tyla grew up in a diverse household, with ancestry spanning Zulu, Irish, Indian, and Mauritian. Her parents, Sharleen and Sherwin Seetha, noticed and nurtured her musical passion from an early age. As a member of the colored community in her home country, their unique culture and experiences have influenced her art. 

Tyla’s Discography 

After completing high school education in 2019, Tyla became popular in 2020 on the heels of her debut single, Getting Late, which featured Kooldrink. In 2021, the record helped her secure a label deal with Epic Records. 

But her international fame did not come until 2023, when she released Water, a widely successful single that made her the first South African soloist in 55 years to enter the US Billboard Hot 100. 

The song not only got her nominated for the BRIT Awards’ International Song, but also copped her a Grammy for the Best African Music Performance in 2024. 

In retrospect, her career started with the release of her first EP, Beautiful Pain (2017), which featured standout tracks such as Jealousy and Thinking of You. She continued with singles like Left Me Again and Feeling Blue.

Tyla’s maiden album came out in 2019 to showcase her artistic growth and, subsequently, expand her discography. The body of work included Flowers and Fake Love, tracks that helped shape the audience’s perception of her style. 

Tyla’s Upcoming Events 2024

On 5th December 2023, Tyla announced her first-ever tour, which would help promote her next album, for commencement in March 2024. Now on, her next point of call is at Philadelphia’s TD Pavillion at the Mann on June 1st. 

The tour continues with an appearance at the rather prestigious Governors Ball Music Festival in Queens’ Flushing Meadows Park on June 7th. Then, from August 1st to 4th, she heads to Chicago’s Grant Park for Lollapalooza, an annual American four-day music festival. 

Tyla will also travel to some parts of the UK for performances at different venues, especially Finsbury Park, between July 12th and 14th.
