Moody Center ATX Events

The sparkling new state-of-the-art Moody Center opened on the University of Texas at Austin campus in 2022. While the venue was intended first and foremost to give the Texas Longhorns men’s and women’s basketball teams a new home, the Moody Center was also constructed with an eye on Austin’s rapid recent development as a new sports, culture, and entertainment hub in America as the city continues to grow and diversify. Historically, the University of Texas has been known more nationally for its Longhorns football team’s success on the gridiron than its Longhorns men’s basketball team’s prowess on the hardwood, due to a long period from the 1950s to the late 1980s where the team struggled to find its feet. However, in recent years, the Longhorns basketball team has had a strong track record at both conference level and NCAA postseason March Madness tournaments, where they have made 11 appearances in the Sweet 16, 8 in the Elite 8 (the most recent coming in 2023), and 3 in the Final Four. Unfortunately for Longhorns hoops fans, the team has not yet managed to push past this final hurdle and get their shot at a title in an NCAA championship final. Along with the team’s surging fortunes over the last couple of decades, the Longhorns have also produced many top players who have gone on to play in the NBA, including Slater Martin, LaMarcus Aldridge, and the incomparable Kevin Durant. Just as at football games, UT Longhorns basketball fans are a passionate lot, showing up in the school colors of burnt orange and white to cheer on their team to victory. As well as Longhorns basketball games, the Moody Center has, in its brief tenure thus far, already been the site of a broad range of events, including UFC fights, bull riding, boxing matches, NBA games, comedy shows, and concerts by artists such as Harry Styles, Willie Nelson, and George Strait. Apart from the days marked out for college basketball games, the Moody Center looks set to pack out its calendar in future years with an astonishing range of exciting events! Hungry visitors to the Moody Center will find tasty snacks galore at the venue’s concessions, including local specialties such as Texas Quesadillas, Moody Foodie Nachos, and Stubbs Longhorn Sandwiches, along with cold beer and wine. Those on the hunt for Longhorns or event merchandise will find lots at the many shops and kiosks at the Moody Center or around campus.
