Drake

Drake had an unlikely first step up to musical stardom: a spot acting in the Canadian teen TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation, a reboot of the wildly popular Degrassi Junior High show of the 1980s. He was known for being late to set because he would spend nights pursuing his other talent (the one that would become his true life passion): recording music. It took the artist several years to break through into mainstream success, but once he did, Drake never looked back, hitting the charts with repeat hits that eventually made him one of the highest-selling artists of all time due to his versatility as a songwriter, lyricist, and collaborator. Raised in Canada by a single mother, Drake remains proud of his roots. He is a huge Toronto Raptors fan and has worked with the team to assist in their branding and merchandise. A chance to see this gifted artist perform live in concert should not be missed!

Awards

Drake has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career for his skill as a musician and songwriter as well as his impact on worldwide pop culture. Most notable among Drake’s long list of accolades are 6 Grammy Awards (in various rap categories), 6 American Music Awards, 39 Billboard Music Awards, two Brit Awards, and three Juno Awards (the premier Canadian music awards; Drake is a dual American-Canadian citizen). He has also performed live at many different award ceremonies, including a medley of "Drop The World" and "Forever" with Eminem and Lil Wayne at the 2010 Grammy Awards.

How did Drake rise to fame?

Drake rose to fame while making music as a side gig to his acting role on the Canadian teen TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation. His first recording, Room for Improvement, was self-released in 2006, and was true to its name, making modest returns for the rapper. Drake soon began to record music for Lil Wayne’s label, tour, and collaborate with other young up-and-coming rappers. His big breakthrough in the industry came in his debut album Thank Me Later in 2010 and follow-up album Take Care in 2012, where he began to mix pop and R&B influences with rap.

Past Drake Collaborations

From the earliest days of his career, Drake has been keen to work with top performers from the music industry to make songs together. This began with his earliest collaborations with Lil Wayne and has continued throughout Drake’s career in collabs with everyone from Bad Bunny and Future to Kanye West, Christ Brown and Kid Cudi, among many others. His collaborations have included chart-topping hits with Rihanna ("Work"), Future ("Life Is Good"), and WizKid & Kyla ("One Dance").
