The Los Angeles Dodgers, certainly one of professional baseball’s most recognizable teams in modern sports today, actually began life all the way on the other side of the country in Brooklyn, where they were known (hilariously) for a time as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. They became the Dodgers in 1913, winning one World Series in 1955 before they relocated in 1958 to the City of Angels (where they would be joined by the Los Angeles Angels of the American League in 1961; rivalry games between the teams are known as the Freeway Series). Holding on to the name of Dodgers, the team brought a World Series title to their new hometown the very next year in 1959. In the 1960s, the Dodgers were blessed with two of baseball’s best pitchers of all time in Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale, who led the team to two more World Series titles that decade. They were triumphant again in 1981 and 1988, with victories again sparked by excellence from the mound in the form of Mexican pitcher Fernando “El Toro” Valenzuela. After those glorious years, Dodgers fans had a long wait in store, as the team failed to make it to the World Series again until 2017, when the Dodgers suffered heartbreak in Game Seven at the hands of the Houston Astros, and 2018, when they were dispatched 4-1 by the Boston Red Sox. The team finally got the job done in 2020 when they downed the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 to win their seventh MLB crown. After a 3-0 NLDS loss to divisional rivals the Arizona Diamondbacks this year, the Dodgers will be revving up for a big season in 2024.
If you are planning to attend a Los Angeles Dodgers game, be aware that, along with the Angels, the team has particularly intense rivalries with the San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, and Arizona Diamondbacks, so tickets might be tough to get. Such games, however, could be fantastic to attend, so be sure to search for tickets on TicketX, the best place to find the cheapest tickets to the most exciting games.
In December 2023, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Japanese megastar Shohei “Sho-time” Ohtani (to the largest-ever contract signed by an athlete) from their cross-town rivals, the Angels. No doubt this will make the Dodgers an even bigger draw from 2024 onwards (they will play a spring training game against the Angels, which should be popular!), pushing the demand for tickets at Dodger Stadium, or wherever the team is playing, to new heights. Check TicketX to find the best tickets to see Ohtani as a Dodger as soon as you can!
