Footprint Center Events

Known locally as the “Purple Palace,” Phoenix’s Footprint Center opened its doors in 1992 as the new home of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns and later the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes* after they relocated to the city from Winnipeg in 1996. The Suns have long been one of the best basketball teams in the country, qualifying for the playoffs on 32 occasions and making three NBA Finals appearances. Unfortunately for the Suns and their fans, all three of those Finals ended in disappointment, with their second attempt, led by Charles (the Round Mound of Rebound) Barkley, taking place during the Footprint Center’s inaugural season, but thwarted by Michael Jordan and his mighty Chicago Bulls. Recent seasons saw the Suns tempt their fans to dream again, but they lost the 2021 NBA Finals in six games to the Milwaukee Bucks. For now, the Suns remain the bridesmaids of the NBA, coming so close but never quite able to get their hands on those precious rings. Fans remain optimistic, however, turning out in big numbers to watch regular season and playoff Suns home games. Footprint Center is a good place to show up on an empty stomach, with everything from the Suns Spicy Chorizo Dog and Pork on a Fork BBQ to Hornitos Tequila Tacos on the menu, as well as nice cold beer at the Dos Equis Beer Garden. Shops and kiosks around the venue also carry a range of Suns and event merchandise.

*The Coyotes of the NHL (now known as the Arizona Coyotes) no longer play their hockey at Footprint Center, but rather at Mullett Arena in nearby Tempe, a suburb of Phoenix.
